Released in collaboration with Pan American Airways and designed for their long-haul pilots, the Rolex GMT Master has been traditional among pilots all over the world. The GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) hand allows the user to tell the time in 2 time zones at the same time. The Rolex GMT-Master originated back in 1954, solving the problem pilots faced on very long flights when they couldn't tell the time in different time zones. The Rolex GMT-Master solved that problem by having a 24-hour rotatable bezel to be able to track an additional time zone.

Initially, the Rolex GMT Master was only available in stainless steel but through its history, it's also been produced in 18k gold and featuring not only an oyster bracelet but also in jubilee style models. The Rolex GMT Master reference 16758 also displays the Serti dial on an 18k yellow gold jubilee bracelet. The Serti dials are usually recognized by the beauty and elegance of their gem characteristics and their champagne color.

In 2007, the Rolex GMT Master II introduced the ceramic bezel to the watch replacing the old-style aluminum bezel used since 1959. Some famous variations of two-tone bezels in the Rolex GMT Master history have been the "Batman" with a black and blue bezel, the Rolex GMT Master "Coke" with a black and red bezel, the famous Rolex GMT Master "Pepsi" with a blue and red bezel and the Rolex GMT Master "Rootbeer" with a brown and black ceramic bezel.
